If you notice that your water heater drain valve is leaking there is no need to call in an expensive repairman to fix it. There is a simple DIY way to replace your valve.
Parts you will need
- A small bucket
- An adjustable wrench or slip joint pliers
- A new drain valve
Warning: Before attempting any repair, make sure the appliance is completely disconnected from the power source.
Step 1: Turn off water supply valve on your water heater
Step 2: Put a small bucket under the leaky drain valve and open the valve, let he water run for about 5 seconds. This will relieve pressure off the tank
Step 3: Use an adjustable wrench or slip-joint pliers to loosen the drain valve. Once it’s loosened, firmly unscrew the valve. NOTE: water may spray be prepared for this!
Step 4: Take your new drain valve and screw it in tightly as fast as possible
