How to Clean Your Refrigerator, Naturally!


It’s a new year and you want to get started on your spring cleaning but you don’t know where to begin! Your kitchen is probably a good place to start especially after all of that holiday cooking. Cleaning out our refrigerators is the first step in the right direction. Once you have cleared the contents from your refrigerator, you will find your work there is not done. Grease stains, spills, sticky spots and all that good stuff is ready to go! The buildup of residue seems like it will take forever to scrub off. Fortunately we found that cleaning your refrigerator naturally can get the job done right!

Whip up this quick & easy homemade fridge cleaner to get started:


  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 10 drops Lemon/Orange essential oil
  1. Add two parts hot water and one part vinegar to a glass/plastic spray bottle (add dish soap if desired)
  2. Add essential oil
  3. Shake well before use
  4. Spray mixture inside the refrigerator and let sit for 2-5 minutes
  5. Wipe down with a damp cloth


Deep Clean Your Refrigerator

For Tough Sticky Areas

  • Saturate a cloth with your homemade cleaning solution
  • Spray solution on the area to loosen the stain
  • Thoroughly wipe area until stain is removed

Spills of Raw Meat/Poultry

  • Wipe the spill with homemade solution
  • Wash area with hot water
  • DISINFECT: Add some hydrogen peroxide or full-strength white vinegar
  • Let stand for 5 minutes
  • Thoroughly wipe area

After scrubbing your heart out, you find that some stubborn food bits remain on the inside of your refrigerator. No worries, there is a solution! It is not homemade but it will definitely do the trick. Grab your WD – 40, spray a small amount on each spot, and then wipe it clean with a rag or a sponge. Make sure to wipe down the area with warm water to ensure the WD – 40 is removed.
