5 Common Refrigerator Fixes


There are some appliance repair jobs that are quite difficult and the most stress free way to fix them is calling a repair man. However, some appliance repair jobs are so simple, you can easily complete themselves.  Here are 5 simple appliance repair jobs that anyone should be able to do!


Job #1-Replacing a Refrigerator Door Handle

  • Tools Needed
    Allen Wrench
    Door Handle
  • Step-by-Step on replacing a refrigerator door handle
    1. Open the Door handle you would like to replace
    2.Using the Allen wrench loosen the screws at the top and the bottom.
    3.Replace the handle and make sure that the screws are towards the inside of the door, set the handle on the knobs and tighten the screws

Job #2-Replacing a Refrigerator User Interface

  • Tools Needed
    Flat Head Screwdriver
    User Interface
  • Step-by-Step of replacing a refrigerator user interface
    1. Remove the user interface by taking the flat head screwdriver and sliding into the tab areas to pry it up and out
    2.Disconnect the wire harnesses and discard your old user interface
    3.Take your new user interface and connect it to the wire harness and click it into place

Job #3-Replacing a Refrigerator Drawer or Bin

  • Tools Needed
    Refrigerator Drawer or Bin
  • Step-by-Step on replacing a refrigerator drawer
    1. Open the refrigerator door
    2.Locate the drawer
    3.Pull out, lift up, and continue pulling out to remove drawer
    4.To replace drawer, line up with rails and push into place
    5.Close the fridge door

Job #4-Replacing a Refrigerator Motor Coupling

  • Tools Needed
    Motor Coupling
  • Step-by-Step on replacing your refrigerator motor coupling
    1.Open the freezer door
    2.Remove the ice dispenser assembly by simply lifting up and pulling out
    3.Remove old motor coupling located at the back of the freezer it is cross thread so you will turn left to remove it
    4.Place new motor coupling on remember its cross threaded so spin it right to tighten
    5.Replace the ice dispenser assembly by lining it up with the tracks and pushing it into place

Job #5-Changing a Refrigerator Water Filter

  • Tools Needed
    Water Filter
  • Step-by-Step on changing your refrigerator water filter
    1.Pull out flap at bottom of freezer
    2.Pull filter straight out
    3.Line up the arrow on the bottom of the filter with the arrow on the freezer
    4.Push in. Filter is all the way in when pushing it pushes in on the flap.
    5.Close flap
