As of May 24, 2016 Water Heating Technologies has issued a recall on select models of their American Standard 30, 40, and 50 gallon Gas Water Heaters due to risk of fire hazard.
“The water heaters have a space between the burner flange and the combustion chamber that allows flammable liquids or gases to contact burning flammable vapors inside the combustion chamber, posing a risk of fire or explosion.” – cpsc.gov
The affected models are white in color and were sold between May of 2015 and February of 2016. It is estimated that approximately 14,400 units are included in this recall with model numbers beginning with “GN” or “GSN.” For a full list of the affected models and serial numbers, you can visit their website: http://www.americanstandardwaterheaters.com/recall/ .

At this time, no injuries have been reported however the manufacture urges owners to stop use immediately and arrange for a free inspection and repair (or replacement if necessary).
