Recall Information: GE Recalls Select Top-Loading Washers Due to Fire Hazard


At 1st Source Servall, we want to make sure that our readers and customers are aware of the latest appliance recalls to ensure your safety.

As of September 15th, General Electric has issued a recall on certain Top-Loading Washers.  A component of the washer may potentially overheat, creating a fire hazard.  The recall includes 3 different GE Profile high-efficiency models sold in the colors gold, grey, and white between June of 2003 and October of 2011. The affected models are:


Approximately 222,000 of the affected models were sold in the US and Canada and at this time, at least 71 reports have been sent to GE of the components inside the washer catching fire or burning. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

If you own one of the above models, you should unplug your washer and stop use immediately to prevent injury or damage.  General Electric is offering free repair for the affected models and you can easily schedule an appointment by contacting them at their toll-free number 877-830-9732 from 8 am to 5 pm EST, Monday – Friday or on their website under “Recall Information.
