You Can Become a Knob Expert!

Many of our major appliances such as ranges,washers, dryers, and dishwashers all have knobs of some sort. Being one of the most used or touched parts of the appliance. Overtime they become worn or possibly even cracked or damaged. Also among all appliances replacing a damaged knob is one of the most simple DIY repairs. So lets take a moment and make you a knob expert!

Washers

  • Timer Knob
    • The timer knob is the largest knob located on the washer, it is usually located in the middle on the control panel.
    • Steps on how to replace your washers timer knob:
      • 1.) Disconnect your washer from its power source.
      • 2.) Pull the damaged timer knob off the control panel and discard it.
      • 3.) Take your new timer knob and line up the D-shaft on the new knob with the shaft.
      • 4.) Slide your new timer knob onto the shaft.
      • 5.) Reconnect your washer to its power source
  • Control Knob
    • The control knob is slightly small than the timer knob on a washer and there may be more than one of them (all washer control knobs have the same replacement procedures)
    • Steps on how to replace your washers timer knob:
      • 1.) Disconnect your washer from its power source.
      • 2.) Pull the damaged control knob off the control panel and discard it.
      • 3.) Repeat step 2 if there is more than one damaged control knob.
      • 4.) Take your new control knob and line up the D-shaft on the new knob with the shaft.
      • 4.) Slide your new control knob onto the shaft.
      • 5.) Reconnect your washer to its power source.

Ranges

  • Surface Burner Knob
    • There are 4 surface burner knobs located on the control panel, the replacement for one surface burner knob is exactly the same as the replacement on any of the others.
    • Steps on how to replace your ranges surface burner knob.
      • 1.) Unplug your range from its power source.
      • 2.) Gently slide the defected surface burner knob back and forth until it slides off the switch.
      • 3.) Discard our old surface burner knob.
      • 4.) Take your new surface burner knob and match the D-shaft inside the knob with your switch.
      • 5.) Push your new surface burner knob onto the switch until it is back in the correct position.
      • 6.) Plug your range back into its power source.
  • Burner Control Knob
    • The burner control knob is located on the control panel and is slightly smaller than the other 4 knobs located on the control panel. This knob usually controls the warming zone of the oven top.
    • Steps on how to replace your ranges burner control knob:
      • 1.) Unplug your range from its power source.
      • 2.) Gently slide the defected burner control knob back and forth until it slides off the switch.
      • 3.) Discard our old burner control knob.
      • 4.) Take your new surface burner control knob and match the D-shaft inside the knob with your switch.
      • 5.) Push your new burner control knob onto the switch until it is back in the correct position.
      • 6.) Plug your range back into its power source.

Dryer

  • Control Knob
    • The control knob on the dryer is located on the control panel. It is used to select various functions of the dryer.
    • Steps on how to replace your dryers control knob.
      • 1.) Unplug your dryer from its power source.
      • 2.) Carefully pull the knob straight off the shaft to remove.
      • 3.) Discard your old control knob.
      • 4.) Line up hole on back of knob with the D-shaped shaft on the dryer and slide knob into place.
      • 5.) Plug your dryer back into its power source.
  • Temperature Knob
    • The temperature knob is located on the control panel and it is a little smaller than the timer knob. It allows you to choose the desired temperature of your cycle low, medium, or high.
    • Steps on how to replace your dryers temperature knob.
      • 1.) Unplug your dryer from its power source.
      • 2.) Gently pull off your old timer knob.
      • 3.) Discard your old timer knob.
      • 4.)With new temperature knob, line up the flat side with the flat side of the shaft and slide the knob into place.
      • 5.) Plug your dryer back into its power source.
  • Timer Knob
    • The timer knob is the larger knob on the dryer that shows the dryer cycle process.
    • Steps on how to replace your dryers timer knob.
      • 1.) Unplug your dryer from its electrical source.
      • 2.) Pull your timer knob off. Slides off very easily.
      • 3.) Discard your old timer knob.
      • 4.) Take your new timer knob and match the shape of the knob to the starter switch attached to your dryer.
      • 5.) Slide your new timer knob into place.
      • 6.) Plug your dryer back into its power source.
  • Push-to-Start Button
    • The push-to-start button completes an electrical circuit to start the drive motor and begin the drying cycle.
    • Steps on how to replace your dryers push-to-start button.
      • 1.) Unplug your dryer from its power source.
      • 2.) Use  your hand and pull button straight off.
      • 3.) Discard your old push-tostart button.
      • 4.) Take your new push-to-start button and match it to the corresponding part on the dryer, then slide it into place.
      • 5.) Plug your dryer back into its power source.
