Dehumidifier Recall Information

On November 2, 2016  a recall was issued by CPSC on behalf of GD Midea for approximately 3.4 million dehumidifiers due to reports of smoke and fire.  The recall applies to select 20, 30, 40 , 50, 60, 65, 70, and 75 pint dehumidifier models manufactured by GD Midea.  These models were sold under a number of brands including:

Airworks, Alen, Arcticaire, Arctic King, Beaumark, Coolworks, ComfortAire, Comfort Star, Continental Electic, Crosley, Daewoo, Danby, Danby & Designer, Dayton, Degree, Diplomat, Edgestar, Excell, Fellini, Forest Air, Frigidaire, GE, Grunaire, Hanover, Honeywell, Homestyles, Hyundai, Ideal Air, Kenmore (Canada), Keystone, Kul, Midea, Nantucket, Ocean Breeze, Pelonis, Perfect Aire, Perfect Home, Polar Wind, Premiere, Professional Series, Royal Sovereign, Simplicity, Sunbeam, SPT, Sylvania, TGM, Touch Point, Trutemp, Uberhaus, Westpointe, Winix, & Winixl

Models were sold in the US and Canada between January 2003 and December 2013 at Lowes, Menards, PC Richard, and a number of other stores nationwide.  The affected models may potentially overheat posing a risk of smoke, fire, and burns.  According to CPSC, at this time there have been 38 reports of smoke and fire, resulting in approximately $4.8 million in property damage.

To find out if your Dehumidifier was included in the recall, you can visit https://www.recallrtr.com/dehumidifier with the brand, model, & serial number for your unit.  This information can often be found on a sticker on the back of the unit.

If you do have an affected model or are unsure if your Dehumidifier has been included in the recall, you should unplug and stop using it immediately.  GD Midea is offering either a replacement or partial refund depending on the age of the model.  Units manufactured before October 1, 2008 will be partially refunded rather than replaced.  The manufacturing date can also be found on the back of the unit.
