Dishwashers make our lives a whole lot easier. No more scrubbing those dishes clean after every meal. All we have to do is load up the dishwasher and press start. But is that REALLY all we have to do? No, actually, it’s not. In order to see our dishes come out sparkly clean time and time again, we have to keep our dishwashers sparkly clean too. This is very important for several reasons:
- Clogged Drains – Dishwasher drains can easily get clogged with leftover pieces of food and even chunks of detergent. When this happens, water gets backed up and not as much is being used during the wash cycles as it should. Clogs can also lead to more permanent damage to the appliance if they are not taken care of.
- Smelly Dishes – If your dishwasher has never been cleaned, it is likely that it will start to smell. Maybe your drain has been clogged for weeks and that food build-up is starting to give off a strange odor. Or maybe the dishwasher has just gotten grimy over time. No matter the cause, if your dishwasher smells, your dishes will too, thus defeating the entire purpose of the appliance.
- Dirty Dishes – We all want our dishes to sparkle when they’re finished with a cycle. However, if there are still food chunks or residue hanging around inside your dishwasher, there’s a good chance they could end up sticking to the dishes you are trying to get clean. Not only did you waste water running a useless cycle, but now you have to hand wash the dishes anyway!
- Efficiency – A dirty dishwasher is very inefficient. Because it is not able to operate at its full potential, more resources have to be used to get the job done. This means the appliance needs more soap, water, time, and power. A clean dishwasher, on the other hand, is much more efficient and creates a sparkling result. With most people trying to make more “green” choices in their everyday lives, this is perhaps the most important reason for keeping your dishwasher clean.
