Surprisingly enough, your dishwasher actually has to be cleaned out from time to time from the buildup of food and grime. A dirty dishwasher can cause harm on your drain, pump, and even your dishes. Be sure to follow these steps In order to clean the inside of your dishwasher.
Supplies you’ll need:
- Baking Soda
- Bleach (Optional)
Step-by-step how-to instructions to clean the inside of your dishwasher:
- Empty the Dishwasher!
- Please unload the dishwasher and make sure there is nothing inside.
- Examine The Drain:
Remove the bottom dishrack and examine the drain area. Make sure that there are no hard chunks that can clog the drain or cause damage to the pump.
- Wash Cycle with Vinegar:
Place a dishwasher- safe cup filled with vinegar on the top dishrack. The vinegar will help penetrate the gunk inside the dishwasher and help get rid of any loose greasy grime.
- Wash Cycle With Baking Soda:
After the vinegar wash cycle is complete, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda around the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short cycle using the hottest water. The baking soda will help deodorize the inside of the dishwasher.
- Optional: Wash Cycle with Bleach:
This step is completely optional. Bleach is not recommended to use for stainless steel dishwashers. But if you have mildew or even mold inside your dishwasher then add ½ to 1 cup of bleach in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a full cycle.
