Putting away christmas decortations

Now that the Christmas is officially over, sadly it is time to take down all the pretty Christmas decorations that took your hard work putting up. 1st Source Servall is here to give you tips and tricks when putting away these decorations. These tips will help you be organized so it makes for an easy decorating next Christmas.

There is nothing more frustrating then tangled Christmas lights. To avoid detangling Christmas lights next year follow these few short steps:

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard into a rectangle. The size of the rectangle would depend on the length of your string of lights. 12 inches by 6 inches is the best size for a standard light set.
  2. Cut a slit on one side of the cardboard.
  3. At this point, you will wrap your lights around the cardboard. Make sure the lights are wrapped tight enough that they will not slide.
  4. Cut another notch wherever the other end of the lights is when you’re done.
  5. You can either store them just like this in a box or wrap them in tissue paper for extra protection.

Putting away Christmas tree ornaments can be tedious. Here are the different ways to store the different types of ornaments you may have on your tree.

  1. For smaller ornaments, you can place them in a clean and dry egg carton.
  2. Plastic ornaments that are not fragile can be stored in plastic sandwich bags and tightly organized in a box.
  3. Fragile decorations should be stored with tissue paper. (If you have small individual boxes for them that is even better). You can use different colored tissue paper to differentiate the different types of decorations. These can then go in a box or tote. If you are placing all ornaments in the same box place these ones on top.

Wreaths can easily get flattened if they are not stored away correctly. To avoid flattening:

  1. Wrap wreath in a loose plastic back.
  2. Tie the bottom the platic bag.
  3. Place wreath on a hanger and hang it in a space that it will not get crushed. This can be in a closet or on a hook.

Storing your Christmas tree to avoid deterioration.

  1. To store your Christmas tree your best bet is to buy a Christmas tree bag and place in inside then you can put the enclosed tree in the original box if you still have it. If you do not want to spend the extra money for a commercial Christmas bag a garbage bag will work just fine if you have one that is big enough.

Save yourself the time and the headache next year by labeling your Christmas decorations.

  1. Make a detailed name on the outside of each box.
  2. Then, number the boxes so that you’ll know how many you have (Example: Box 1 of 10). This way you will know the order to unpack your decorations.
  3. Finally, put these away in storage backward. Place box 10 in the back and box 1 in the front of the top.
