As the weather continues to drastically change, the temperature in your home fluctuates, which can make your refrigerator work harder. Appliance maintenance is very important, especially when ensuring a long life expectancy for your appliances. We as homeowners put off little tasks like taking care of an internal problem with a specific appliance. Keeping up maintenance for your appliances is how you can ensure a long life and ensure your appliance is working as efficiently as possible. Here are a few signs to help you determine if your refrigerator needs maintenance. So when you have your next cleaning day look out for these signs!
Sign 1: Excessive Condensation
Whenever you see moisture puddling up in your refrigerator, it means a larger issue could be at hand. First, check to see if the moisture is from any food that was warm or recently cooked. If there is no sign of moisture from food, there may be a problem with your gasket system. This would require you to replace your door gaskets in your refrigerator. If you still see excessive condensation, there may be problems with maintaining consistent internal temperature in your refrigerator.
Sign 2: Refrigerator feels too warm
Refrigerators produce a small amount of heat; the problem is when it produces too much heat. Sometimes your refrigerator produces too much heat when the condenser coils are too hot causing the motor to overcompensate. This can also occur by not cleaning off the dust on the condenser coils located on the bottom or back of your refrigerator. Homeowners should dust off the condenser coils at least once a month and that will minimize the possibility of your refrigerator overheating. Other reasons your refrigerator may feel too warm are problems with the capacitor, defrost heater and thermostat.
Sign 3: My Refrigerator is over 10 years old!
Technology is always changing and if you have a refrigerator over 10 years old, it may be time to get a new one. Older refrigerators are more prone to repair problems, like quick wear and tear and how old technology requires updates. It would be wise to invest in a new refrigerator that is more efficient and will save you money in the end.
