KitchenAid Stand Mixer Maintenance Tips

Stand mixers are perfect for mixing ingredients, but over time problems can occur if you don’t take proper care of your stand mixer. Here is a list of tips and tricks to follow to keep your stand mixer performing in tip top shape.

  1. Use it but don’t abuse it!

When you first purchase your KitchenAid stand mixer all you’re going to want to do is repeatedly use it, and you should just don’t break it! KitchenAid has a Two Year Hassle-Free Warranty from the date of your purchase (just make sure you have your receipt).  If something breaks within those two years, KitchenAid will replace it for you!

  1. Guard against overheating

Just like any appliance, the stand mixer will shut off if it overheats. At times the auto shut-off safety feature on your stand mixer mimics the common repair issue that the mixer has stopped working, but is usually because you are using your stand mixer for recipes that you shouldn’t be using it for. Carefully read recipes to make sure it is okay to use your stand mixer.

  1. “Warm up” your mixer prior to using it to prevent lubricant leaks

Your KitchenAid stand mixer contains a food-grade oil lubricant (all stand mixer have them it is a legal requirement). But food-grade lubricant separates more easily in cool temperature. If your stand mixer has been stored away for a while, let it run for a few minutes prior to mixing any ingredients so that the lubricant solids and liquid can re-mix.

  1. Adjust the beater height for even mixing results

Is your beater scrapping the mixing bowl and damaging it? Or is it completely missing ingredients in the bowl? If you are experiencing this problem, then you should adjust the beater height. To adjust your beater height check your owner’s manual or simply follow these steps.

Tools Needed: Screwdriver and a dime or coin

  • First, place the coin or dime at the bottom of the bowl
  • Next, raise up your tilt head and turn the screw clockwise (to the right)
  • If you know your beater height turn your height about a 1/4 way. You want the coin or dime to move.
  • Place your attachment in the tilt head and run your stand mixer. (If the attachment and/or beater is moving the dime or coin then it is at the correct height.
  1. Don’t forget to consult with your manual

Alright the owner’s manual is the first thing you want to read, but it sure comes in handy. For example, if you need to repair your KitchenAid stand mixer if it is leaking oil, guess what it is in the manual!
