Is your dryer shutting off too soon and not completing its cycle? Do you constantly go downstairs to check your clothes and they’re still wet! There is unrestricted flow from where the vent exits your wall to the lint trap. The high limit switch will cut out the heat in a short period of time if air is not able to move throughout the dryer. You will have to see if the dryer vent hose is clogged or has been moved. First, you will need to clean off lint and dryer sheet residue from the filter. You can do this by using a long-handled bristle brush to clean the dryer vent.
Tip: The closer the hose is from the dryer to the wall, the faster and more efficiently it will dry clothes and prevent clogs!
The dryer high-limit thermostat shuts off the heating element when the dryer overheats. It allows power to pass through the thermostat when normally operating. When the thermostat stays open, the heat source won’t receive the required amount of voltage it needs to operate. You can test the thermostat for continuity by using a volt/ohm meter. Do this by removing the two wires on the ends of the thermostat. Check for resistance and if there is no reading then the thermostats is opened and needs to be replaced.
The dryer moisture sensor detects the amount of moisture in the laundry load. You laundry load may not be connecting with the sensor strips if the load is too small. The moisture sensor strips detect moisture in your dryer. They are located inside the drum of your dryer on the front edge. If they become dirty or covered in residue, the strips may lose its ability to detect moisture. If this is the problem to your issue, clean the strips with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball.
The dryer wheel and housing spins on the motor shaft to blow air through the dryer drum and out through the exhaust. Air will not circulate properly if the blower wheel is damaged or not functioning properly. Check to see if any objects are blocking the blower wheel from spinning. The blower wheel could be shaking because of a weak connection to the motor shaft. This can reduce how fast the blower wheel spins and it could decrease air flow and increase drying time. Make sure the blower wheel and motor shaft are tightly screwed on so the blower wheel is spinning fast and generating air flow.
