Why You Need to Clean the Lint Filter Every Time

Standard

As homeowners, you’ve heard the rule of thumb that you need to clean your dryer lint trap after every load! Is this true? Yes!! There are many reasons why cleaning your lint filter is good for your drying machine. We are here to tell you why it is important to clean your lint filter after every use and how often you should clean it!

Why clean it?!

The agitation and high heat in your dryer occurs when clothes are tumbling inside and shed excess fibers; these fibers are most common with items like towels, linens, and clothing. The lint screen catches many of those fibers to prevent damage to the dryer vent hose. Several important reasons to clean your lint filter are listed below.

  • It will help dry your clothing faster. If you constantly have to add time to your drying cycles check the filter because it may be clogged with lint. Airflow is essential when the drying cycle is running.
  • Helps your dryer last longer! Taking the pressure off your drying machine decreases the overall wear and tear. This makes your dryer more efficient, helps your appliance last longer, and reduces repair costs.
  • Reduces fire risk. Lint is very flammable and dryers generate a high temperature. Remove the lint from the lint filter after every use to reduce the risk of a fire and help keep your family and home safe.
  • The dryer works harder to complete the cycle if the screen is clogged which increases your energy bills. Cleaning the lint screen allows air to flow out the exhaust vent and leads to reducing your energy bill.

How often should I clean a Lint Filter?

It is recommended to clean the lint filter between each load of clothing to prevent the above issues from occurring. Get in the habit of removing lint either before or after a load. Make a poster or write yourself a note to remember to do this!
