Tips for Maintaining a Pet-Friendly Home

Standard

Do you love your pets, but not so much love the way they can sometimes make your house look? Furry friends can add a lot of joy to a home, but they can also make it a lot more difficult to keep rooms clean and tidy. But it is possible to have it all! Below are some tips to maintain cleanliness no matter what type of little friend you have running around.

The most important tip is to try to keep your pet itself as clean as possible. Regular baths and proper grooming can keep your furry friend clean and smelling good. If they go outdoors, check them over before they come in to make sure they won’t be tracking in anything undesirable from outdoors.

Spot clean any messes your pet makes right away– this will keep anything from getting tracked around the house and also prevent anything from causing a lasting odor.

Make a point to regularly clean your pet’s items, and try to have a specific place for them. Things like chew toys, scratching posts, or favorite stuffed animals can easily hold onto odors and germs. Don’t forget their bedding!

Stock up on the proper cleaning products and de-scenting solutions for all types of surfaces in your home (wood floors, carpets, sofas,etc.). This way you can always be prepared and keep your home smelling fresh.

Invest in a really good vacuum cleaner. There’s no way around it; a pet-friendly home should be vacuumed every day to keep the hair from building on surfaces and in the air.

If you want to cut down on the cleaning all-together, consider sectioning off the parts of your home that you do/do not want the pets to share. Keep your pets in parts of the home that are easiest to clean, such as non-carpeted areas or rooms that are a tad emptier.

Be sure to keep items off the floor that could be at risk of being chewed on or eaten. This is for the protection of items but, also because a lot of household things are dangerous for animals.

Having pets in your home is a big responsibility, but it shouldn’t have to be stressful if you just make some small adjustments!
