As we make our way through summer and are in need of excess amounts of ice, this is not the time for your ice maker to start causing problems! The three most common problems with ice makers are lake off ejecting the ice, leaking, and failing to make ice. The good news is ice makers are simple machines which all relatively operate the same way and leads to quick and easy repairs.
It’s disappointing when you are craving a cold glass of water or juice and realize you’re low or completely out of ice. You might wonder why it takes your ice maker so long to produce ice for your needs. There are a few common reasons this happens that you should check or get fixed to help your ice maker produce ice faster and more efficiently. There are also many easy repairs you can complete or things you can check yourself to make sure everything in your freezer is operating properly.

If your ice maker isn’t working properly, ice cubes are super small or it’s not making ice at all, there’s no need to immediately think you need a new one. Here are a few do-it-yourself methods you can do at home before calling a repairman or going to the store.
Water Supply Line: make sure that the water supply line is receiving water to make the ice.
Check the Fill Tube to see if it’s frozen. If your fill tube is frozen, this is usually caused by ice that has backed up. An indication would be smaller ice cubes than normal that keep getting smaller.
Check the water line: The water line is found entering the back of the freezer. The water shut-off valve is located behind the refrigerator or under the sink. Turn this off, unscrew the copper line, turn on the valve and see if water pours out.
Check the tap valve: the tap valve connects the ice maker’s water supply to the water pipe. A bad tap valve will cause problems between where the ice maker’s supply tube and the water pipe connect.
Check the solenoid: It’s possible that the solenoid may be broken or not receiving power. Make sure the refrigerator is unplugged, and then flush out the sediment screen with water.
