HELP! MY DISHWASHER WON’T HEAT! | How To Change a Dishwasher Heating Element

Although there are several factors that could be affecting your dishwasher heating, the most common part associated with dishwasher temperature problems is the heating element. Even in high quality parts it is common for the wires to burn out. You can use a multimeter to assess whether or not a part needs to be replaced – this measures element resistance, which should be between 15 and 30 ohms. A reading above 30 means the element needs to be replaced.

Luckily this situation is a fairly simple and relatively inexpensive fix (compared to the cost of hiring a handyman).  Here is a step-by-step guide for this doable DIY dishwasher fix. You will need a new heating element, a multimeter and a basic toolset.

Replacing or Repairing Your Drain Hose(Why Your Dishwasher May Not Be Draining)

There are a couple reasons why a dishwasher may not drain but one of the more common reasons is that there is something wrong with your drain hose, here is a DIY way you can replace or repair your drain hose.

*WARNING: Before starting any repair, always make sure that the appliance is completely disconnected from the power source by unplugging it.  This tutorial is meant to be a guide and should not be used in place of the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.  

FINDING THE HOSE:

1.) Remove the lower kickplate pannel of your dishwasher, this is usually located below the door. To do this just unscrew the screws either located above or below the kickplate pannel
2.) The drain hose will be connected to the lower spray arm
